During the climax of the novel the missionaries came to Umuofia to share the word of God. This particular event discouraged okonkwo and cause him to anger. The missionaries were destroying the culture which okonkwo had love for. How can a stranger come into someone’s house and don’t respect it. This is what the novel demonstrates by the missionaries coming into the village.
I can imagine the thoughts that were running fierce throughout Okonkwo mind. Through my perspective I can imagine the devastation that the missions had brought upon his culture. The missions have put a sharp knife to the things that held Umuofia together. Okonkwo was thinking on how he can reunite his village and culture back together.

When the missionary came to Umuofia there was great fear in the atmosphere. I can see the village right now filled with bewilderment. When the missions came to the village they came to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Now the village of Umuofia was totally against this whole perspective. This caused the people of Umuofia to drive the mission as far away as possible.
There was a translator between both the Umuofia’s and the missionary. I knew that the village didn’t want this white man faith to be spread throughout the tribe. This bothered the leaders of Umuofia, and they decided to give the missions land at the entrance of the Evil Forest. The novel clearly demonstrates to us that the Umuofians didn’t want the missions among them.

The missions had been among the people of Umuofia for a while now. The gospel has spread over the village and many villagers of Umuofia converted to the white man’s faith. The new faith began to develop in the village and new convert’s found overwhelming confidence in their new God. The novel shows the audience this by telling us what happened to the three converts boasting.
The novel shows the audience how the citizens felt about the new coverts boasting with confidence in their new religion. This was a disgrace for the people who lived and died for the sake of their religion. This is a powerful event that occurred through the later chapters of the novel. So for their arrogance the officials arrested them and torture the new converts until they drew blood.

The novel demonstrates how much the men in the village of Umuofia took pride in their heritage. The hair of a man of Umuofia represented everything that he was. When the new converts decided to come to the trinity God they had to shave their heads. This very point of the novel was very intense for me to even handle. I was thinking in the back of my mind how the new converts could shave their past off.
It took a while to cut the hair off, but eventually they fully converted to the trinity God. This is one of the most significant events in the novel. The adherents of the new Faith were excluded from the life and privileges of the clan. I am going to use this piece of information in my up coming essay. The author clearly shows the audience all what the new converts had to go through in order to become a Christian

Okonkwo had a going away festival to celebrate his going back home to his father’s village. The years have passed and Okonkwo was truly ready to go back to his homeland. This was a day that he was waiting to come for years. I could only imagine what was going through his mind at the time he was about to head home.
On the way home Okonkwo was thinking about all the years that have past, and what would he be remembered for when he returned home. Would he still have the representation of the greatest wrestler throughout all villages? Or would he be a man remembered for killing an innocent kid at a funeral? This must have been a re occurring thought running dangerously throughout his mind.

As reading through out the novel I came to the conclusion that pg 176 is the most important quote in this novel. This idea comes at the end of the novel expressing what the white man has done to Umuofia culture, and language. I can consider Okonkwo’s feelings towards the missionary. They have destroyed everything that he had lived for.
The quote goes on to explain to the audience the emotion that ran fierce throughout Umuofia. “He has put a knife on the things that held us together and we have fallen apart. This is where the title of the novel received its meaning. As reading this quote it sounds like Okonkwo is on the path of giving up.

When I read through this particular event I was bewildered. I couldn’t grasp the meaning of this scene first time. Enoch, the son of the priest, who was believed to have killed and eaten the sacred python. This is very ignorant for him to perform. I couldn’t understand why he killed the sacred python.
By performing this ignorant act, Enoch touched off the greatest conflict between the church and the clan. Why would someone bring a problem that would result in a division? From my perspective Enoch was trying to make a statement loud and clear. I know for a fact that his voice was heard loud and clear.

Enoch started the greatest conflict between the clan and the church. He even killed the sacred python which was a very dangerous situation. While reading a little further in the novel I see how Enoch killed an ancestral spirit. Enoch ran for his life because he knew that he would be killed if the remaining ancestral spirits caught up to him.
While the ancestral spirits were searching for Enoch, he hid himself inside the missionary church. The egwugwa then destroyed the church. By this point in the novel I was nearly blinking my eyes. I said to myself, what is going to happen in the next few pages of the novel. I believed that Okonkwo was going to commit a serious crime.

Now reflecting back on the novel I can clearly see how Okonkwo had lost everything he had. I don’t believe that Okonkwo had nothing to live for. His clan had turned their backs on him, and he was left feeling alone. One day a messenger of the missionary crossed paths with the forceful Okonkwo. Without hesitation Okonkwo killed the messenger and ran for his life.
Now the missionary was in search for Okonkwo until they found him. As I proclaimed earlier, Okonkwo had nothing to live for so I have come to the conclusion on what he is about to perform next. Okonkwo hangs himself on a tree on the last page.

During the cool of the evening everybody was at the market enjoying their selves. With in a couple of moments huge amounts of white men appeared out of no where and whipped out Abame. This was a very disastrous evening for the villagers of Abame. I can feel their hurts and plain for the lost of so many lives in the village.
When I think about the disaster that occurred in Abame I think back to our own country. This was a very stressful and full of emotion scene for me to even handle. This was a very bad decision that the white man made in order to contain some control. This scene would always cross my mind when I think about this novel.

Okonkwo had been residing in his motherland from a couple of months now. I want to believe that he was chilling in his new compound. Then one day Obierika came to visit Okonkwo at his new compound. This was a much unexpected surprise performed by his close friend, but he didn’t come to celebrate; he came to tell him that his son was now Christian
This must have crushed poor Okonkwo’s soul. This must have been a disgrace to his very soul to figure out his son serves another God. I can reason with Okonkwo attitude because I will feel the same way if my son turned to another religion.

This is a very disgraceful scence in the entire novel. Nwoye denies Okonkwo as he’s father. This must be some disturbing news to Okonkwo, because this is his own flesh and blood. It must had been very hard for Okonkwo to see his son turn to another God, and then turn his back against him. I take this as a very disgraceful scence I read throughout the entire novel.
When I reflect on his scence I consider how important Nwoye was to Okonkwo. This is very disappointing to see a family spilt up do to the service of two different Gods. This is were things start to fall apart.. I wonder would Okonkwo had killed his son if he wasn’t so close to him.

Unlike any other village in any of the surrounding areas Umuofia, Umuofia had twelve egwugwa sprits representing each tribe. This was the supreme judges of all the village of Umuofia. If there was any situation to hard for the officials of Umuofia to handle, they send them to the twelve representing tribe leaders, and Judges.
There was so much respect for the twelve representing spirits of the tribes. The Evil Forest represents the village of Umueru, or the children of Eru. There were significant amounts of praises and honor being presented to the twelve spirits. The Evil Forest represented the end of the world, and total darkness flooded the sky at night time.

There was once a story about a bird which had a lot of meaning behind it. The bird name was Tortoise. This particular bird didn’t have no wings as most birds did. He heard of a upcoming feast that he was so desiring to attend, but he had no wings to get there.
So Tortoise gathered the fellow birds up and explained how he was a changed bird. So the birds all agreed to each give him a wing so that he can create two wings. When the feast of the sky arrived Tortoise went happily with the all the other birds. So lustfully at majority of the food, and the fellow birds all grumbled under their breath. Pretty soon Tortoise was so stuffed that he couldn’t even move.

Loud noises of drums and other noises blasted through the evening to declare that someone was dead. It was a big alarm and pretty socking that Ezedu was dead. Last time Okonkwo saw Ezedu was when he told him not to spare a hand in the death of the young lad. It very much grieved Okonkwo heart to figure out that this man was door knob dead.
While attending the funeral of Ezedu Okonkwo accidently killed Ezeuda. Ezeuda innocent blood lay up in a puddle of blood which cried uncontrollably. This was a horrible act and if any man was to kill he had to flee for his life for a good amount of years before he can return to the clan. So Okonkwo fled to his motherland.
