The week of peace is a rare a sacred week in the Umuofia village. This week was dedicated to the gods and goddess in the villages. When this week approached there were no criminal acts to be preformed. This week was set aside to be a holy week, and if anybody broke this sacred day with some criminal act they would be punished.

Okonkwo let his anger and wrath get to the best of him on this week. Ojiugo was okonkwo’s third and youngest wife. She left without permission, and when she arrived home she awaited a near death experience. Okonkwo broke the week of peace and there he was punished by Ezeani, the priest of the earth goddess.

No one was suppose to do any work our criminal acts during the Week of Peace. Okonkwo committed the first criminal act during the Week of Peace. He was now the gossip of the town. Okonkwo knew he had committed a horrible crime and he went to the local priest for help.

The priest couldn’t do too much to stop the emotional pain that was with in Okonkwo. Okonkwo felt the sharp pain inside but he wouldn’t let one tear or sign of emotion out. The people of the villages said that he had no respect for the gods of Umuofia.

The drums were off and the whole tribe of Umuofia was awaiting the promising wrestling matches. This was the heart and soul of the village purpose of entertainment. The drums were like a echo that sounded out over all the village. It was just about dawn and the young men of the tribe started their wrestling matches.

The men and women of Umuofia didn’t really pay attention to any of the young men wrestling matches. This particular match was an interesting rivalry. This match held a future and promising young lad named Maduka. This young man grabbed the attention of all the tribal leaders in the tribe.
